new york fashion week

on saturday, i headed up to the empire hotel for rewardStyle's fashion week rooftop party.

there were tons of stylish fashion blogger types there . . . to be honest, i felt a bit out of place. also? how did they all have perfect hair & makeup? it was so hot & humid, all of my makeup wore off and i was sweating up a storm. :/

still, it was a super fun people-watching event. add in some free drinks, snacks & swag, and it was pretty rad.

harley viera-newton dj-ing it up.

oh, hey there, julia engel.

beautiful jewelry on display from kendra scott.

tons of great clothes, but also some pretty outstanding shoes on show as well.

great accessories and lots and lots of dSLRs, too!

after wandering around the party for a while, i headed down to the lincoln center plaza to do some more fashion week people watching. i used to go to fashion week all the time when it was held in bryant park. this is the first time i've ventured up to lincoln square since they moved the event uptown.

LOVE the girl in the middle's entire look. so fun and colorful!

and the day was capped off with a coco rocha sighting.

until next time, fashion week! (probably shouldn't have posted my photo underneath a professional model's . . .)

hiho batik

earlier this summer, i was invited to hiho batik, to make my own custom t-shirt. on a sunny saturday morning, we headed up to park slope to meet julia and get to crafting.

they have an adorable store front on 5th avenue in park slope, but the art studio in the back is where the magic happens.

julia instructed me to draw a simple picture that we could transfer on to a t-shirt for olivia. my first attempt was this silly little bunny rabbit and we all decided it was the winner. good thing all of that magna-doodle drawing finally paid off. ;)

next, julia helped me use their AMAZING light table to outline my drawing in hot wax on to a t-shirt.

then, it was time to add some color!

olivia was still a little too young to help, but i did ask her opinion on which colors to use and she added a few dots here and there.

a few days later we picked up our super cute t-shirt! olivia was very proud to model it for me. we got a size up from her current size so that she can grow in to it.

isn't it cute? i think it would be SO MUCH FUN to have a birthday party here for slightly older kids. maybe in the 5-10 year old range? if you are in brooklyn, definitely go and check them out!

thanks again to julia & robyn for having us! we had a great time!

2015 ikea catalog

i recently attended a sneak peek of the 2015 ikea catalog.

the title of the catalog is "where the everyday begins" and the focus of the event was bedrooms and bathrooms.

they also have a cool feature with the ikea catalog app where you can virtually place products in your home to see how they would look. pretty cool, right??

my friend, jill, went with me to the event and we both LOVED this corner. all the cool DIY features and poppy colors. super fun.

these bright yellows were pretty great, too.

and the rugs! you guys. so fantastic. we both fell in love with that simple one up top and then one of the IKEA reps was telling us about these pieced kilim rugs. they are all one of a kind and made from remnants of old rugs. super cool.

thanks for a fun evening, IKEA!
